ExtranetPlayground (EP) is an Illium-based pornographic film studio, with a reputation for producing high-budget, high-production-values films with plot and character development comparable (in general scope, if not specifics) to mainstream cinema.

EP's big break was Citadel XXX, an erotic blockbuster based loosely on Risa Uvarson's Citadel. At the time, the adult film market had been trending for more than a decade towards fast-turnaround films emphasising sexual performance, often with little or no effort at presenting storyline. Although displaying a certain degree of unfamiliarity with mainstream-quality production, Citadel XXX received considerable critical praise on its debut, and the lack of comparable films from rivals made it a runaway commercial success, and EP an overnight industry leader.

The studio was quick to capitalise on its success (which, according to interviews, exceeded even its own hopes for the film), investing heavily in expanded production facilities in Nos Varda, and employing a variety of experienced and up-and-coming technical and creative personnel. Subsequent films continued to improve EP's reputation for story and production values, and the studio amassed a cadre of erotic stars whom it heavily publicised, ensuring viewers more interested in stimulation than storyline didn't stray to competitors.

Illium Entertainment merger[]

When the Reapers invaded Illium, EP's facilities in Nos Varda - one of the planet's best-defended surviving cities - remained largely intact, but the severe interruptions to interstellar communications and trade severed its access to all but local consumers. Media giant Illium Entertainment, meanwhile, had evacuated the majority of its personnel to Nos Varda, but lost its Nos Astra film studios. The two firms quickly closed a deal whereby IE bought EP, using its Nos Varda studios to continue to produce mainstream films for local consumption, as well as smaller adult films using EP staff and performers.

Following the war's end and the reopening of the relays, IE began construction of a new studio complex, returning EP's facilities to full-time erotic film production. While EP remains a wholly-owned subsidiary of IE, the studio has been given creative freedom to pursue and develop projects as it sees fit, which are then promoted and distributed via IE's wide-reaching galactic media network.

Contract Stars[]

The majority of ExtranetPlayground's major performers are professionally contracted to the studio; despite the reputation of Illium contracts, these generally require only that the performer may not appear in other studios' films, and exceptions are frequently made for amateur films or productions associated with EP's parent company Illium Entertainment.
